LES garden thanks LCF for continued support....

The LES garden and students continue to learn, grow and thrive with garden beds, square foot beds, bee's and more.  This could not happen without the continued support of the Lyons Community Foundation who has been granting support to our programming for many years.  Because of the LCF, we are able to grow food that is donated to LEAF our local food pantry feeding more than 43 Lyons families each week, in addition to providing Science and Leadership activities, at all grade levels, each month.

Food Rescue at Lyons Elementary

Starting in December, Lyons Elementary School will officially participate in the SVVSD Food Rescue Program.  While we have been collecting food from our cafeteria for awhile now, this official program will help support us with bins and coolers for milk collection.  The food that is collected is then available to our students for snacks at the Office and overage is shared with LEAF.

Here fishy, fishy, fishy.....

The LES Trout in the Classoom program is off and running with a brand new batch of eggs just delivered on Tuesday!  Students and volunteers are trying a new, 2 tank system this season and are hoping for lots of little swimmers in about 30 days.  About 300 eggs will be in the dark and cold, getting ready to hatch.  We aren't sure how many we will make it- fish hatcheries average about 90% hatch rate, while in the wild, hatching rates average are much, much lower.  We hope to have pictures of our little fingerlings soon.  Stay tuned.
