Buddy Bench ...finding friends at Lyons Elementary

Kid's don't have to be lonely at recess anymore!  Thanks to Ryan Graeden, Blue Mountain Stone and the LES PTO, a new "Buddy Bench" has been installed on the LES playground.  The concept of this bench came to the US via a German school with now more than 2,000 benches installed at playgrounds all over the country.  Students sitting alone on the bench works as a signal to others on the playground that they are in need of a mate.  We can't wait to see the bench in action!

Leaving a legacy at Lyons Elementary School

Ten-year-old Eden Irvin learned a lot in fifth grade and thanks to a year-end project there is a permanent reminder of her hard work in the entryway of Lyons Elementary School.

A large, wooden book lies open at the front of the school and features carvings that represent lessons learned by Eden’s class throughout the school year and the legacy they hope to leave behind.

For more than 18 years, fifth graders at Lyons Elementary have embarked on the Lyons Legacy Project -- a capstone assignment aimed at teaching studen

LES Garden - Harvest!

The Lyons Elementary School Garden has really grown by leaps and bounds this year.  With seedlings germinated under lights and planted by 1st grade students, the garden is producing tomatos, cucumbers, squash, basil, dill and peppers of all colors.  Eco Club and 1st grade students have been harvesting for a couple weeks now, supplying our local LEAF Food Bank with amazing fresh produce.  The Garden will play an important role in our new Science and Leadership Program to be held on Late Start Days.
