Trout in the Classroom
Thanks in part to funding by the St. Vrain Chapter of Trout Unlimited, Lyons Elementary 5th grade students, staff and volunteers have hatched, tested, monitored, measured and cried over hundreds of baby trout. With about 50 still surviving, students will release these little ones into the river at our May Late Start Science and Leadership. This amazing program is designed to bring students closer to their Watersheds. Students raise trout from fingerlings, montitor tank water, engage in stream habitat studies, learn to appreciate water resources, learn conservation ethics and develop an understanding of ecosystem connectivity.
We are looking forward to releasing our little LES Trout into the wild and are even more excited to continue this program for years to come! We will keep you posted….
