• 15% of Lyons residents are living in poverty

• 1 in 8 Coloradans struggle with hunger

• Food insecurity exists in 17.2 million households in America, 3.9 million of them with children.

• 39% said they must choose between paying for a meal or paying rent.

For years, the Annual Holiday Food Drive at LES has been supporting families throughout the greater Lyons Community during the holiday season in partnership with Lyons Emergency Assistance Fund and Higher Grounds Ministries Int.  The needs have increased greatly in our community since the 2013 flood. LEAF’s food pantry typically supports 35-40 families every week in the greater Lyons area.

We ask that you please bring in non-perishable (non-expired) food items beginning Monday, November 26th and continuing through Friday, December 14th.

This year’s goal is to bring in 2,500 non-perishable food items as well as raise $500 to purchase perishable food items such as ham, turkey and bread rolls.

There will be a school-wide contest to see which class brings in the most donations.

Here is a shopping list of items you can include in this paper bag for donation:

☐ canned soups and vegetables

☐ canned beans or chili

☐ fruit cups, pudding cups and/or applesauce

☐ canned fish and meats (tuna, salmon, chicken)

☐ snacks (granola bars, goldfish, beef jerky, nuts, crackers)

☐ pasta and pasta sauce

☐ peanut butter, jelly and/or honey

☐ whole grains (oatmeal, rice, couscous, quinoa)

☐ cereal

☐ juice boxes

☐ $20 gift cards (St.Vrain market, King Soopers, Target, Wal-Mart)

 

*Cash and check donations can be dropped off at the front office.  Please make checks payable to Higher Ground Ministries Int’l.
