The LES Trout in the Classoom program is off and running with a brand new batch of eggs just delivered on Tuesday! Students and volunteers are trying a new, 2 tank system this season and are hoping for lots of little swimmers in about 30 days. About 300 eggs will be in the dark and cold, getting ready to hatch. We aren't sure how many we will make it- fish hatcheries average about 90% hatch rate, while in the wild, hatching rates average are much, much lower. We hope to have pictures of our little fingerlings soon. Stay tuned.

Technology is all around us, driving progress and opening up realms of possibilities at rapid, evolving rates. We appreciate and make use of the countless conveniences it affords. But rarely do we get the chance to pause and reflect upon the realms of possibility it can create for families.

5th grade students got a chance to work with Colorado Trout Unlimited to regulate the ongoing river population following the flood and flood recovery plan. Trout Unlimited staff place equipment in the river to gather samples to be weighed and monitored. Students got a first hand chance to see, feel and work with the samples. This will be an ongoing partnership as part of the LES Science and Leadership Programing.
