Dear Lyons Elementary Community, Over the past several days, we have been closely monitoring the Cal-Wood Fire, in partnership with the Boulder Office of Emergency Management and the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office. Firefighting crews have done an outstanding job containing the northern spread of the fire, but we know that wildfires can be unpredictable and we must remain vigilant and prepared for any changes to the fire’s activity. Out of an abundance of caution, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Department has requested that we close our schools to in-person learning for Tuesday and Wednesday, in the event the fire shifts direction, which could require evacuations. To this end, Lyons schools will be closed to in-person learning on Tuesday, October 20 and Wednesday, October 21. During this time, we will shift to our online asynchronous learning model with a synchronous Morning Meeting check-in. Our Community Schools program will be closed, and Wednesday’s parent teacher conferences will be rescheduled for a future date. Safety is paramount for our students, teachers, staff, and community, and we strongly encourage families to closely follow the Boulder Office of Emergency Management recommendations to have your back packed and be prepared to leave with little notice. We will continue to keep families informed as we learn new information and hopefully prepare for the return to in-person hybrid learning on Thursday, October 22. During each classroom’s Morning Meeting, your teacher will communicate any assignments or learning expectations for the day. Additionally, your child’s art, music, pe, or library class will take place remotely during their Specials time. Morning Meetings and Specials classes will take place in your child’s teacher’s Personal Room in Webex.
