Due to a grant obtained by the SVVSD, LYEL has been given opportunity to partner with the FFA/CETC/Agriscience programs. These programs will work this spring with our existing school education garden to grow produce to be taken to district prep kitchens for use throughout the SVVSD schools. This is an amazing opportunity to bolster greater farm to school programming, directly effecting our school menus.
Agriscience, FFA students will also give their time during the school year to teach and mentor students about gardening from planting, harvest, and recipe development at your school. It will be a step toward bringing fresh, local and healthy options to our meal program including procuring FFA student-raised beef, pork, etc.
Our 2nd graders planted seeds with some AgriScience student this month which were taken down to the district for germination and planting in school gardens.
